All students and guests are expected to

adhere to our rules and code of conduct

House Rules:

  • No shoes, food, gum, or drinks on the mats (water is ok).

  • No bare feet outside of the mats and no shoes on the mats.

  • Please respect everyone’s space by storing your gear in the appropriate places.

  • Have fun, make friends, and be willing to learn!

Code of Conduct:

  • Wash your Gi and workout clothes after every class.

  • Clean and sanitize your gym equipment (gloves, bag, etc.) Disinfectant wipes are great for this.

  • Keep fingernails and toenails trimmed to prevent scratches and infection.

  • Long hair should be tied up.

  • All jewelry, bracelets, necklaces, and piercings must be removed before class.

  • Absolutely no bare feet in the restrooms or on the floors outside of the mats.

  • Please do not arrive to class smelling of perfume or cologne (but please apply deodorant!).

  • If you are sick, please stay home and rest. You can resume your training once you are better. Be mindful of your fellow students!

  • If you have any open wounds, ensure that they are completely covered before class starts.

  • Do not train with active skin infections (ringworm, STAPH, etc.) If you are not sure if you have an infection on your skin, please ask an instructor.

  • Please have respect for the facility, all students and staff, and the instructors. BJJ students are expected to bow when entering or exiting the mats. All students will address black belts as “coach” or “professor.”

  • When you are sparring, please be mindful of the age, ability, and experience of your partner. It’s generally a good idea to communicate with your partner how hard you want to spar. And remember, protect yourself at all times.

  • Grapplers, when you are in a submission, be clear with your tap by tapping your partner’s body or with a strong verbal “tap.” Set your ego aside and avoid injury by tapping early and often. Everyone wants to go home with their limbs in the same place when they first walked into the building. Let’s push each other, not break each other!

  • There is no tolerance for harassment of students or staff, including sexual harassment, coercion, unwanted sexual advances, targeted disrespectful or sexually explicit language. We want everyone to be welcomed and to train in a safe environment.
